What is the legal status of Marijuana in Louisiana

Across the nation, Marijuana is slowly becoming legalized. The stigma associated with it is going away, and it is becoming more and more accepted. While it may be socially acceptable, legally it remains against the law in Louisiana. This means that if you are caught smoking marijuana you can still be arrested.

Thankfully, some jurisdictions like New Orleans have moved away from arresting people for marijuana possession, but this is not always the case in more rural jurisdictions. There are still laws in smaller areas that allow marijuana to be charged as a felony if there is a previous possession conviction, or if over a certain amount of marijuana is seized. If the marijuana is individually wrapped you could also be charged with possession with intent to distribute.

Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security, marijuana possessions still carry long lasting and often long felt consequences. If you are charged with any form of a marijuana judgement, you will need a qualified and experienced attorney to fight your case for you. With the proper representation, we can likely defeat your charges and hopefully keep a conviction off your record. Call us today to discuss your options and let me help you avoid these pitfalls.
