Hurricane Court Closures — What to Do if You Missed your Court Date

You took the day off work to go to Court but, unfortunately, Mother Nature had different plans. Court was closed and now you need to know what to do about your case. You have several options:

  1. Call me and I will go to Court and reset your case for you. I will get a new date and you will not be penalized for missing your date.

  2. You can take another day off and go down and get a new date yourself.

Unfortunately, you will likely now have to take additional days off work because the next time you go down there, they will only reset your court date. This is because the Court has its own schedule of dockets and cannot afford to add a bunch of new cases because of a Court closure. If you hire me, I can get the case reset and you will not have to miss any more work coming down to Court to deal with your case.

It is important if you are going to reset your case yourself that you do so as soon as possible after the Court reopens. For a limited time, the Court will reset your case without adding any contempt fees for missing your initial court date as a result of Court being closed. However, that window is open for a short period of time. If you wait too long, the Court will issue and attachment for your arrest and will add on contempt fees. If your case is for a traffic ticket it may also result in your license being suspended.

Don’t make the mistake of having either an attachment or contempt fees added to your case. Don’t allow your license to be suspended unnecessarily. If you call me today, I will go down to Court and get your case set back on track. You will not have to worry about added fines or fees, attachments, or any issues with your license, Peace of mind is worth the phone call. Contact me today! 504-300-8338.
